What sets 1820 Candle Co. apart is not just the quality of their products but the authenticity of their roots. Founded in 2004 by Melissa Smith, the story began in the kitchen of her family’s 1820s farmstead, where she started crafting her candle creations. From these humble beginnings the business evolved into a thriving downtown storefront, online shop, and wholesale account friendly supplier for shops all over the country.
1820 Candle Company has kept its small-town charm alive thanks to the three generations of women that run it. Melissa works alongside her mother, Cindy Parker and daughter Sidney Smith. They make every candle with care on-site; you may even get to witness the process through their shop window. When you step into their store you are welcomed by locally sourced gifts and, of course, an extensive array of candles. Their candles are all made with 100% plant based wax, 95% of which are soybean. They offer several lines, and more than 60 different fragrances, which feature botanical elements, essential oils and perfume grade oils. They also carry some that are made with synthetic phthalate-free fragrances that replicate specific food smells and fruity notes.
Every candle is made on-site at their shop with the same care and precision since the beginning. They give a portion of their proceeds to various charitable causes, both locally and beyond. Meaning your purchase has a great impact on a family-owned business but also on the world.
