Volunteer
East Palestine Think Tank – The Village of East Palestine is a participant in the Ohio Rural Community Assistance Program’s (RCAP) Building Thriving and Resilient Communities Program, lead by Roberta Streiffert, Senior Rural Development Specialist. This federally-funded program seeks to help communities grow and prosper through grass-roots economic and community development, by focusing on existing assets, placemaking strategies and building entrepreneurship opportunities. The East Palestine Think Tank is a group of volunteers that collected input from the broader community through a series of surveys and focus groups, culminating with an in-person visioning workshop about the wants and needs of the village to move forward. They created an EP Visioning Report with strategic initiatives and a long-term vision to serve as a roadmap for recovery and future development following the devastating derailment that occurred on February 3, 2023. The next steps involve a collaborative effort between the Think Tank, Village leadership, the EP CIC, and other stakeholders to further refine the strategic priorities into actionable goals and initiatives that might be accomplished with appropriate funding.
