When Kari Breick opened The Golden Spa LLC in East Palestine this summer, she brought with her more than ten years of experience in veterinary care and a lifelong love of animals. Located on State Route 14, her new grooming salon is quickly becoming a go-to destination for local pet parents.
Kari’s journey began with grooming school in 2011, followed by an associate’s degree in veterinary assisting. She worked in general practice and emergency veterinary care before deciding to create a space that allowed her to focus on joy. “After ten years in the veterinary field, you get mentally and emotionally drained from the hard moments,” she shared. “I wanted something happy—something that let me pamper animals and make their families smile.”
The Golden Spa offers full-service grooming for dogs, cats, and even exotic pets. Kari recalls her very first client being a bearded dragon in need of a nail trim. Services include baths, trims, shave downs for long-haired cats, nail caps, ear cleaning, anal gland care, and even fun extras such as safe, non-toxic pet hair dye and nail art.
The name of the spa has special meaning. “The name actually came from my Golden that I rescued, Willow,” Kari said. “She only has three legs, and her story touched my heart. I wanted her to continue with me in this journey—which is why her face is on our billboard as a cartoon.”
Kari runs the business with a small, friendly staff and hopes to expand its services in the future. “My ultimate goal is to add a doggy daycare, so pets have a safe and happy place while their owners are at work,” she noted.

Her background in veterinary medicine is what sets The Golden Spa apart. “When you bring your pet here, you’re not just getting care—you’re getting exceptional care,” Kari emphasized. “I know the ins and outs of behavior and medical issues, and I make sure pets are treated safely and compassionately.”
Kari is also committed to community involvement, from sponsoring her son’s bantam football team to donating baskets for local events. “I want to see East Palestine thrive with more small businesses, restaurants and shops,” she said. “We deserve to be known for our community spirit.”
