East Palestine Park – Phase 2 Updates

Berrill shared the Phase 2 initial schematic for the pool and pool building for approval before the final design is completed. Phase 3 is the demolition of the current pool to create the parking lot for the facility. The entire completed park project will fit into the budgeted $25 million.

From left to right, or west to east, the proposed plan shows a standard competition sized pool approximately 59’ x 82’ with eight marked swim lanes. It can also be used recreationally when not in competition use. This connects to the larger multi-purpose pool with a submerged ‘dog bone’ seating area. There are multiple entry points for all abilities including steps, a zero entry area where you can walk directly into the pool, as well as an ADA ramp with railing for access. There is also a seating bench and a swim lesson area in this large pool. The depths vary in this pool from 0’ to 5’ depending on the area and there is a double loop slide.

These images from Woodlake Recreational Center show similar features to the ones being suggested for the East Palestine Park pool project.

There is also a smaller zero entry play pool that is 1’ deep that has a splash pad area with sprayers, jets and geysers for water fun. There are also plans for a typhoon water feature and dumping buckets. The plan also includes a separate, even smaller toddler pool for parents and babies to safely play together. There is ample open pool deck area for tables and chairs.

These pools will be heated and constructed with state-of-the art equipment designed to be low maintenance. These design plans are not yet final pending approval of feature sizes and equipment function and placement. The EP Council made a motion to move forward with the schematics as they are currently drawn with a projected project completion date of pool season 2025 and adjourned.
